Jigme Khesar Strict Nature Reserve

The only strict nature reserve among the protected areas in the country spanning a total area of 609.51 sq. km. It stretches from the northern part of the country from the district of Haa (five out of six Gewogs) to a small part of Samtse to the south.

  • Except for a few migratory Yak herding communities, there are no permanent human settlements.
  • Home to endangered species such as the Snow Leopard, Red Panda, Tibetan Snowcock and Rufous Necked Hornbill.
  • Operationalized in 2010.
